Mosaic Trisomy 18

“He is an amazing son, compassionate friend, and a trusting child of God.”
My name is Gloria, and I am the mother of Brandon, a young man with a heart of gold. He is a fabulous teenager and enjoys many activities such as acting, reading, volunteering, playing video games, attending church youth events, and learning about any period of history. Yes, he also has a genetic condition known as Mosaic Trisomy 18, which has been called “Incompatible With Life”, but that condition does not define who he is. He is an amazing son, compassionate friend, and a trusting child of God.
During his early years we were bombarded with Doctor’s appointments and therapies. It got to the point that when his therapists would go near him he would scream uncontrollably. At times it felt like he was in between two worlds and not fitting into the “mold” of either. Brandon has experienced many challenges over the years. But through them, I can honestly say that it has shaped him into the wonderful young man he is today.
During this past year, we have become involved in the Trisomy on-line community and have so appreciated coming to know wonderful families from around the world. I am so thankful for the gift of my son. He truly is everything a mother could possibly ask for. Having an extra gene has given him an extra dose of love, compassion and faith. He has taught me so much, and I am moved to tears when I see how God, in His faithfulness, has answered my prayers above and beyond anything I could have imagined!
